Thriving, Not Just Surviving
Winter challenges
When my body struggles to cope with winter, I find myself battling the onset of feelings that aren't quite right, and my mental health can become a bit challenging. The cold, gloomy days often seem to amplify the aches and pains, making it harder to maintain a positive outlook. It's during these times that I remind myself of the importance of self-care and the little things that bring warmth to my spirit.
I wrap myself in cozy blankets, light a scented candle, and let the soft glow create a comforting atmosphere. I make cups of herbal tea, these small rituals serve as gentle reminders that even in the depths of winter, I can find moments of peace and comfort.
I also focus on embracing the slower pace that winter encourages, allowing myself to rest and recharge without guilt. Journaling becomes a refuge, offering a space to pour out my thoughts and emotions, helping me to process and release any negativity that tries to take hold.
Connecting with friends even if just through a phone call or a message, lifts my spirits and reminds me that I am not alone. We share stories, laughter, and words of encouragement, reinforcing the bonds that keep us strong.
I made it to the beach, enjoyed a day with my children, and cherished time with my grandson. I have created wonderful memories, explored new places, and I'm grateful that despite the challenges some days bring, I am able to experience days like these.
Despite the challenges that winter brings, that this season, too, shall pass. Each day is an opportunity to nurture my well-being and focus on the resilience that has carried me through so many trials before. By leaning into these small comforts and connections, I navigate the winter months with grace and gratitude, ready to emerge stronger on the other side.
